Think about the women you know — their work, their passions:
Did she work with Courage — against active opposition?
Did she persist with Determination, driven to solve a problem that others ignored or seemed not to care about?
Is her work in the community powered by a Vision to help women and girls achieve all they choose?
Did she create her own future with her Initiative?
Was her spirit tested and shown to be a model of Heroism?
Has she given a lifetime of achievement, earning the designation for Steadfastness?
Or has she gone from this earth leaving a Heritage of achievements that enrich our lives?
Consider nominating someone for the 2024 awards: Women of Achievement
WomenTalk – April 2023
Why is the Women of Achievement ceremony important?
Because women’s history is not taught and is not known.
Research by the National Women’s History Museum shows that out of 737 historical figures taught in K-12 curriculum standards in every state, only 178 or 24% are women, including several fictional characters such as Rosie the Riveter. Ninety-eight of the women appear in only one state curricula and only 15 are in more than 10 states. Most are from protest movements such as Suffrage and civil rights. Sixty-three percent are white.
This must change.
Women of Achievement discovers and shares women’s history. WA awards are given by our community to women for their often-unrecognized and underappreciated sacrifice, leadership and commitment. So far the stories of 270 individuals and three groups have been celebrated and documented in WA books and on the Women of Achievement website.
