WomenTalk: How IPV is Overlooked as a Site of Chronic Physical Disease

5:30 pm – 6:00 pm: beverages and snacks
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm: panel and discussion

Join us for an eye-opening WomenTalk panel!

Exploring the deep, and often overlooked, connection between intimate partner violence (IPV) and chronic women’s health conditions, this research focuses on the chronic neurological, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal effects of intimate partner violence survivors.

Rhodes College intern, Tabitha Meadors, has conducted this literature analysis, and will be joined by a panel of medical professionals from the Memphis area, Dr. Owen Phillips, OB-GYN, and Amy Moses, PT, of MOJO Pelvic Health, bridging the gap between research and real-world medical care.

    Why is This Important?

While IPV is commonly recognized for its direct relation to physical and emotional impairment, emerging research shows this is tied to lasting health issues that many don’t realize are even linked.

    — WomenTalk is an open house tradition initiated by the board of the Memphis Area Women’s Council in 2013, a gathering when anything can be discussed and all opinions and fervor are welcome. Come yourself or share the invitation with women you know, join us for conversation and commentary about the world around us, plus enjoy a beverage! We might cook up some action or just shoot the breeze, but WomenTalk is always interesting and exhilarating.
